How I Organize My Week

Feb 20, 2020

Hello, friends! If you follow me on Instagram, then you know I've been dealing with a horrible case of mono and have been very house / bed bound. It's been brutal! But this week, I'm trying to get myself back on some sort of schedule, and excited to see how it goes. I suspect, it'll be slowww! But in all honesty, I'm ready for slow, and ready to put my wellness & health at the top of my list. All too often, I push, and push, until I'm pretty much ready to collapse, and needless to say, it's starting to take a toll on my health and well being. Old lady problems, am I right?! ;)

So today, I thought I'd chat about my goals and how I'm planning out my week, plus keeping my personal priorities at the top of my list. It's definitely all too easy to lose ourselves in a busy week and I'm very much committed to changing my ways. It's time to start putting myself first. Who's with me?!

Defining My Goals - As soon as 2020 hit, I bought a new agenda book, sat down with a cup of coffee and laid out my personal goals. I also added clear bullet points to each, so I could identify how I wanted to implement said goals. It made all the difference! For this year, my goals are: health (diet, work-out, cut down on alcohol, and spend weekends being active), marriage (take time to check in on my marriage 1x a week, read relationship books, and take time for date night), me time (more self love, more bubble baths, more meditation & chilled out yoga), social (time with friends, girls night, or hosting dinner).

Schedule You First - At the beginning of each week, I sit down and schedule all my goals first. I add my fitness days, marriage goals, me time and social time. I love knowing I'm committing to my goals before anything else. It's a testament to my commitment to pursue my well-being and ensure I'm making time for self love. After all, we get to do this life once, and I want to know I'm doing it well. Thriving, achieving my best, and continually growing into the person I want to be.

Then I Add My Work Goals - I use to add my work goals first and rarely made time for me, or the things I truly valued. This subtle shift has made all the difference, and in all honesty, has made me even more productive. I believe, when we get our priorities straight, we're much happier people. If you've done this all along? Then seriously, kudos to you! I've had to work really hard to re-wire my brain and learn to add balance to my life. But I'm here for it!

Fun Rewards - When my day is done, and I've checked off my to-do list... I love climbing back into bed, making a hot chocolate and catching up on my favourite vlogs. Or taking a bubble bath, wrapping myself in my robe and reading a book. It's a small thing, but it's my reward to say - hey you, great job on getting your shit done today. Haha!

Don't Sweat It, Tomorrow's A New Day - On that note, don't sweat if you don't get it all done. Tomorrow's a new day, and I never worry if I have one or two things to check off from yesterday's to-do list. If I do, it's usually not time sensitive anyway and it can wait. It's easy to get caught up, feel stressed, or like you're not doing enough. But that kind of negative thinking isn't going to do anyone any good. So yeah, with that in mind, I've definitely learned to cut myself some slack.

Shared Calendar - One of my faves is Martin & I have a shared calendar. I love being able to see what he has coming up for the week so I can schedule my life accordingly. It's such an easy thing, but keeps us really on top of everything. Meals, date nights, or when he might be around to help me photograph a blog post, etc.

There you have it, my week planning in a nutshell. And if you have any questions?! Ask away in the comments, I'll be sure to answer! And thank you for your patience as I re-coup from my mono. I suspect, I won't be able to do any outfit photos quite yet - so bear with me while I share more lifestyle oriented content. On that note, let me know if there's something you'd love to see!! xo

  1. I should probably start doing something like this because some days when work is slow (I work from home) I end up just watching TV waiting for work when there's other things I could be doing whether it be for the household or personal goals.

  3. I'm so sorry you've been so sick, I hope that you are on the road to recovery! I am a planning/goal-setting junkie, so reading posts like this one make me so happy. I love the idea of putting your goals on your calendar first, I need to do that. I'm guilty of putting other things first, but if I write it down, I usually do it, so putting "me" things at the top of my list needs to happen!

  4. As soon as you start talking about paper organizers, you are speaking my love language ;) I live and die by my paper calendar. I have two electronic ones, too, but those are really just a back-up for my paper version. I swear, I take things much more seriously (and remember them more accurately) when I write them out by hand. That said, my calendar is 100% practical. There are no goals, just to-do lists, notes about tasks I need to work on, deadlines and meeting times in there, really. And that's what works for me. Which is the wonderful thing about how we stay organized - through time, trial and error, we all figure out what suits us best and when we do, the feeling of being organized is just so satisifying :)
